BIS CRS registration
Support for manufacturers and brands navigating CRS product classification, BIS-recognised laboratory testing, documentation and registration applications.
When CRS may apply
The Compulsory Registration Scheme covers notified product categories. The manufacturer applies for registration for the relevant product, brand and manufacturing location after testing through a BIS-recognised laboratory.
Correct product classification matters because similar products may fall under different standards or categories depending on their function and specifications.
Information to review
Our CRS support
We help identify the notified category and Indian Standard that should be evaluated for the product.
We organise manufacturer, factory, brand, model and authorisation documents and identify missing information.
We support sample and document readiness and coordinate agreed testing activities with a BIS-recognised laboratory.
We prepare the agreed application information, monitor queries and help coordinate responses through completion.
Common planning issues
A CRS project can be delayed when a regulated component is considered only after finished-product testing has begun. Batteries, cells, power supplies and other covered components may have their own compliance requirements.
We review these dependencies early and help plan the sequence of testing and registration activities. Where current provisions allow an eligible parallel-testing route, the conditions must be checked for the specific product before it is recommended.
Multiple models or brands should be reviewed against the applicable grouping and documentation requirements before the test and application scope is finalised.
Regulatory reference: Official information is available from the BIS CRS portal. Product coverage and procedure remain subject to current notifications and BIS requirements.
